Date

From Sunday June 1 to Saturday June 7, 2025

From June 1 to 7, 2025, graduate students from CARE partner  (external link)universities (external link)(Sciences Po's Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA) (external link)the University of  (external link)Toronto (external link)the University of British Columbia (external link) and the University of Guelph (external link)) will convene in Paris for the first-ever Sufficiency Summer School, where theory meets practice, with the support of the DRG Foundation (external link) .

The summer school marks the final stage of a five-month collaborative research project, where students systematically reviewed academic literature to identify sufficiency policies and practices in digitalization, food and nutrition, urban policies, trade and competitiveness.

With the City of Paris (external link) as their case study, students will develop bold, sufficiency-based recommendations to reshape urban strategies and demonstrate how doing better with less can drive a more equitable and sustainable future.

Guided by city officials, CARE mentors, and academic supervisors, students will work in teams to analyse existing policies and uncover pathways for integrating sufficiency into governance and urban planning.

The Sufficiency Summer Study includes three field visits, the first one in Paris at the Académie du Climat's Roofscapes and the second and third ones, co-organized with Barbara Nicoloso (external link) from Virage Energie (external link), in the Hauts-de-France region (external link). The three field visits will provide students with first-hand insight into how sufficiency principles are being implemented in both urban and rural settings.

The week culminates in a public presentation of student's findings at the Académie du Climat (external link) on Friday, June 6, where students will share their visions for a sufficiency-driven future.

By placing sufficiency at the heart of policy innovation, this first-ever Sufficiency Summer School empowers the next generation of leaders toward fairer, more resilient societies.

The Summer School is co-organized by the World Sufficiency Lab (external link) and the CARE  (external link)Programme (external link).
