Varun JOSHI

Varun JOSHI is a PhD candidate in Sociology (Criminology) at the University of Guelph, specializing in green criminology, environmental harm, and climate justice. His doctoral research examines the lived experiences of individuals engaged in animal activism, using qualitative methods to understand meaning-making, ethics, and political engagement. More broadly, his scholarship explores how structures of power, responsibility, and ethical accountability shape experiences of environmental harm, with a focus on including animals and land within discussions of crime, harm, and deviance. Through the CARE Tribunal, he aims to contribute evidence-based analysis that strengthens collective approaches to climate responsibility and intergenerational justice.
